Wine – Once a day, every day, give yourself a treat

Great wineEvery once in a while my friend Shane and I get together for some food and a pretty decent bottle or 2 (or more) of wine. We go out and just see what strikes us as looking tasty for that evenin’ and have a little bit of a tasting. Although his pool skills may be lacking, he appreciates a good bottle of the vino.

A couple of Fridays ago, we went out and grabbed the 2 bottles you see to the right. A 2000 Peter Lehmann Mentor and a 2002 Ridge Geyserville. Man, these were 2 silky, sexy and wonderful bottles of wine. The Mentor is a Cabernet/Malbec/Merlot blend with plenty going on – a juicy, smooth and blackcurrant-filled bottle of goodness. The Geyserville on the other hand is a Zinfandel-based California bombshell with a refined slutty side (there’s some other stuff in there as well: Carignane and Petite Sirah). Tonnes of fruit without being overpowering – this one made our taste buds very happy indeed.

Like Agent Dale Cooper once said in Twin Peaks, “Once a day, every day give yourself a treat.” These were very good treats indeed.
