Wine – 2006 Babich Sauvignon Blanc

01142007a.jpgMan, this is tasty stuff! As far as a white under $20, it really doesn’t get any better than this. It has a big mouthful of fruit as well as crisp acidity that makes it a wine that pairs incredibly well with food.

I love a good Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, especially the area this comes from – the Marlborough Valley. 2006 was apparently a fantastic vintage there and it shows in this wine.

The winery describes it as having, “A pungent nose of ripe tropical fruits overlaying zesty lemon and lime.” Absolutely! The nose is lush with grass, gooseberry fruit and a whack of citrus fruit.

The flavours literally reach out of the glass, smack you and then give you a warm Kiwi hug. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this with a simple dish of grilled chicken, potato and green beans. OK, I guess in reality I can. I LIKED it a lot.

Buy this wine and try it.

$18 here in BC.
