I’m a wine geek of the first order… it all started when my Dad gave me my first sip of wine as a kid. I didn’t think it tasted very good, but the memory of the smell of that wine stayed with me (I think it was a Charles Krug Cabernet).
After an early stint with various beers, mixed drinks and *God knows why* wine coolers, I got heavily into wine at age 21 when a girlfriend of mine was working as a bartender and was given a bottle (a Parducci Gewurztraminer) to take home and sample. It’s all been happily downhill since then.
Around 1997 I started working at a couple of wine shops in town and spent more than I made on wine for the next 3 years or so… Thank God I was working as an IT guy & web developer during the latter part of my tenure there, otherwise I would have had to give up the vino.
Nowadays I am purely an outside-of-the-industry wine lover. I’ve been drinking it daily for almost 20 years and there is obviously no end in sight. This site is basically my online wine journal, with a little help from my buddy, Graham who contributes now and then.
Whenever I can, I travel to wine regions. I’ve been into Italy’s Piedmont, the Burgundy area of France, the Napa and Sonoma Valleys (many times) and into BC’s wine country more times than I can count. I’d love to hit other areas of Italy, Portugal, Spain, Australia, New Zealand… too many to mention here. I obviously need to travel more.
I’ve started down the formal wine education road with a 2nd-level WSET course and plan more. The web may pay my bills, but wine is my passion… So many wines, so little time.
